Group 1 Shots: Reference Notes

 

*Many takes include motion that we will not need.  This was mostly for the actors to put the shot in context.  I am pointing this out for each shot, but please see the animatic and story reel for a better idea of exactly where the motion begins and ends.

 

*” Takes are the ones to use for mocap imports.  Use the positive comments about the other takes to modify the “*” ones after the mocap is imported.

 

AMAN600

 

All takes include motion at the beginning and end that will not be included; only the steps (1-3) directly before and after the “grab” will be included in the shot.

Take 1: too slow overall; too general; not enough going on

Take 2: ditto

Take 3: good up through and including the grab

Take 4: movement not restricted enough; too fast

Take 5: good head movement; shaking right hand is nice after the grab

*Take 6: good body movement after the grab (appears to be struggling with quick movement)

 

BADT300

 

Take 1: shoulder movement is good; piece held too close to body the whole time

*Take 2: overall its good; movement of arms good; cautious walk good

 

DISP800: no mocap yet

 

Take 1: too subtle

Take 2: too much build up; good after the exhale (blinking/eye movement)

Take 3: good, strong exhale—maybe too long though; arm motion is good; chest heave is good

 

DISP1000

 

Will only use a couple steps before the grab and several after; already in motion when the shot begins; in motion when the shot ends.

Take 1: too slow and cautious

Take 2: too slow; lack of real direction

Take 3: disregard long pause; little dip before the grab is good

*Take 4: good swing of arms and loosening of body; conveys cockiness well

 

DISP1100: no mocap yet

Take 2: yes; double-take is nice (with him bowing his head to look above the rim of his glasses); good hunched look when he gets up

Take 3: yes; moments of distraction before actually looking up; drops what he is doing immediately

Take 1: no; not active enough

Take 2: no; too much shoulder rotation

Take 3: good pacing; good facial expressions; too much shoulder movement

Take 4: no; too fast; good stiffness in upper body

Take 5: no; too brief

Take 6: beginning is good; after she speeds up, too much movement in body

Take 7: no; too slow and not enough movements

*Take 8: yes; good combination of previous takes (look at Take 3 also)

 

DUEL400: no mocap yet

 

Take 1: no; confused actors

Take 2: no; too much delay

Take 3: yes; simple and to the point as it needs to be

Take 2: no; too much for the first alteration

Take 3: yes; makes the material look pliable; interesting hand motion; good without the hand lowering at the end

Take 4: no; confusing things with fingers; too much bending for this point in the story

Take 2: yes; very clear hand expression overall for Maestro; snatch is a little too fast, but good in its overall movement

Take 3: yes; good movement of the hands, communicating frustration; effective sigh; good transition in noticing Maestro; look at Take 5 for better execution

Take 5: yes; good subtle acknowledgement of Maestro; similar but better than Take 3

Take 6: no; too much like Bernini’s St. Theresa in Ecstasy J

 

TRUMP1-300: no mocap yet

 

Take 1: like the way Cuervo places hand on lips when Maestro inspects the piece; head cowers too much—submissive; not enough expression and movement

Take 2: Maestro examining the instrument by looking over the rim of glasses is good; too much submission in Cuervo

Take 3: yes; good body movements, facial expressions, and interactions b/t characters; Add Maestro’s examination motion from Take 2 

 

TRUMP1-500 – no mocap yet

 

Take 1: no; Cuervo shows contempt by throwing up his arms; not enough movements in Maestro

Take 2: yes; Maestro’s hand movements are very good and linear except for horizontal finger wave (third no-no), good subtle shake of Maestro’s head in beginning; Cuervo displays good Joe Montana Statue of Liberty stance and recovers it well when Maestro turns around; good body movement when he backs away in reaction to Maestro’s lecturing; good circular head motion of disappointment for Cuervo

Take 3: no; neither are in character in this Take

 

TRUMP1-600 – no mocap yet

Take 3: very direct and matter-of-fact nod -- good

Take 4: no; way too smooth, lack of Maestro’s demeanor

Take 5: yes; best portrayal of Maestro’s character in addition to good facial expression

Take 1: no; too frail and cautious

Take 2: no; too slow and frail

Take 3: yes; good pacing with motivation; direct motion while still showing stiffness in age

*Take 4: yes; similar but better than Take 3

 

TRUMP1-1200

 

*Take 1:  yes; good movement of the head (circular motion when walking away); nice pose while looking at piece; sway of arms and body motion shows lack of excitement (which is what we want)

Take 2: no; weird pose while looking at piece; hands are too poised and elegant
